Creative Money aims to have an open conversation about finances in the creative industries.
It was founded in July, 2020 in an attempt to address a frustrating lack of relatable financial guidance for creative workers and is written by me, Matt Parker, a music journalist and lecturer.
It’s been a while. Nearly a year, in fact, since I issued an update on all things Creative Money. This is predominantly down to the fact that my partner and I had a baby (again!)
I could write a lot about the financial lessons learned and indeed I have already (this is my fourth attempt at writing this), but I’ll save that for another time…
Today, I’m getting in touch to let you know that I’m going to be leading two workshops as part of UK charity Help Musicians’ brilliant Music Minds Matter campaign. These will run at 11am GMT on Friday 27th January and Friday 10th February.
The focus is on managing personal finances when working in music. Spaces are limited, but you can register for a free ticket over on the Help Musicians site.
It’s really tough out there for musicians (and creative workers, in general) right now and I don’t have all to answers, but I’m hoping the session will prove helpful to anyone who wants to get some clarity on their finances.
I’m also really proud to be working with Help Musicians and Music Minds Matter – and it would be great to see some subscribers there!
Also, for any students at BIMM University (including Performer’s College, Institute of Contemporary Theatre and Screen Film School), I’m hosting my online Run Your Money workshop series again. They’ve kicked off already, but drop me a line from your college email if you want late access.
Finally, if you want to get me in to talk to your organisation about navigating that awkward intersection of money and creative work, get in touch!
Until next time,
Matt
